We are waiting in the lobby of our hotel for our guide, Shiyan, to take us to another airport. Today we fly even closer to our sweet Riley, as we will be in her province (Shanxi) this afternoon. We all feel human again this morning after a good night's sleep. We were never so happy to see a bed! This Howard Johnson hotel is beautiful and brand new. Hopefully, you can tell a little about it from our pics. Our guide told us this is the first time they have used this hotel because it is so new. We were all too happy to break it in for everyone!
I wanted to tell you more about our journey here. We flew out of Nashville to Newark International Airport. Once in Newark, we immediately felt like we were somewhere far away. We were fortunate to meet some other Chinese people who were on the same flight as we were. We met and spoke extensively to Jen-Jen Lin who works with the Chinese language/culture program at Eakin Elementary School in Nashville and also with the Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville. She teaches Chinese dance and encouraged us to expose Riley to this when she is older. She gave me her business card as a contact when we are back home, and she helped me with some Chinese pronunciation of key phrases we need to know to communicate effectively with Riley. I now know how to say Riley's Chinese name! Most of the people on our flight to Shanghai were Asian, and we immediately became the minority. It was a different experience, but one that we should probably all encounter to understand what other ethnic groups must feel. There were lots of little Asian babies and toddlers on our flight, and they were delightful to observe. They are just so beautiful, and we can't wait to see our China doll in person!
Life is good and we are filled with anticipation about what the next 24 hours will bring! Thank you all so much for your prayers; we definitely feel them on the other side of the world! Our God is a Global God!
